ART FOR HUMANS

Art For Humans recognizes that art and artmaking are essential to our human existence. This project started out as a work of solidarity with people experiencing houselessness, and recognizing that humans have a fundamental need to experience beauty, art and self-expression that doesn't go away when we're in a period of crisis. 100% of the contributing artists have experienced housing insecurity or houselessness, and have used artmaking as a survival tactic through periods of crisis.

The first two issues serve as proof of concept, with art submissions from friends and colleagues. Crowd-sourced funding was used to cover printing costs, with distribution directly to local homeless shelters including NW Youth Services, Women Care, Opportunity Council Homeless Outreach, and 2100 North. The third issue will be produced with submissions from homeless youth, in collaborations with NW Youth Services. Currently applying for grant funding for production of Issue 003 to cover costs of workshops with contributing artists, and design, production and distribution of the finished zines.

Art For Humans is published under a creative commons copywright: anyone may download the free pdf of the zine to print for their own enjoyment.
